Peer Review Process
All submitted manuscripts are first checked by the editors to see whether they follow the submission guidelines of the Journal of Indonesian Legal Studies (JILS). Manuscripts that meet the journal’s format and style requirements will continue to the peer review stage. Journal of Indonesian Legal Studies (JILS) uses a double-blind peer review system, which means both the authors and the reviewers do not know each other’s identities. The journal involves reviewers who are experts in relevant fields of law. The final decision on whether a manuscript is accepted or rejected is made by the editors based on the reviewers’ comments.
Each manuscript will be reviewed by at least two reviewers according to their expertise, specialization, or previous experience in reviewing similar manuscripts. The journal provides a standard review form to ensure that both reviewers evaluate the same aspects. After receiving the reviewers’ comments and recommendations, the editorial board will make a decision. Reviewers assess the manuscript based on its originality, clarity of presentation, and contribution to legal studies.
The Journal of Indonesian Legal Studies (JILS) has four possible editorial decisions:
- Accepted as it is – the manuscript is accepted without revision.
- Accepted with Minor Revisions – the author must make small improvements within the given time.
- Accepted with Major Revisions – the author must make significant revisions within the given time.
- Rejected – usually because the manuscript is outside the journal’s scope, has major technical problems, or lacks clarity in presentation.
The peer review policy is applied to ensure the quality of publications in the journal. The process includes three stages: initial review, double-blind review, and editorial decision.
Initial Review
The editor first examines the manuscript to determine whether the topic fits the journal’s scope. The manuscript is also checked using a similarity detection system to identify possible plagiarism. Manuscripts that are not relevant to the journal or have a high similarity score will be returned to the authors.
Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the initial review will go through a double-blind peer review process, where both the authors and reviewers remain anonymous. At least two reviewers will evaluate the manuscript and provide recommendations. The editor is responsible for selecting reviewers carefully and avoiding any conflict of interest during the review process.
Decision
The editor makes the final decision regarding the acceptance of the manuscript based on the reviewers’ comments and recommendations.
