Abstract

Gold shops require early-warning systems that combine access identification, object detection, fire indication, and remote event monitoring. This study develops and evaluates an Internet of Things-based security monitoring prototype integrating an ESP32 controller, an ESP32-CAM camera, radio-frequency identification, an infrared proximity sensor, a flame detector, Firebase, and an Android application. An experimental prototyping approach was used, comprising hardware and application design, integration, and bench-scale functional tests. Five identification cards were evaluated at 30 distances, while proximity detection, camera-response time, flame indication, and two operating modes were tested separately. All five cards were detected at distances up to 4.0 cm but not beyond 4.0 cm within the tested range. Infrared detection activated a local buzzer at distances of 1–19 cm. The recorded mean response times along the identification-to-camera and infrared-to-camera paths were 8.40 s and 7.69 s, respectively. The fire-indication test showed inactive readings up to 38.95 °C and active readings from 49.66 °C. The prototype demonstrated integrated bench-scale functionality; however, notification latency, alarm reliability under network failures, and field performance require further validation.
