1. Open Access and Licensing

BMB is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal. Published articles are made freely accessible to readers without subscription fees or mandatory registration.

Articles published under the journal's current licensing policy are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).

2. Copyright Ownership

Authors retain copyright to their scholarly works and grant BMB the non-exclusive right of first publication, subject to the applicable publishing agreement.

Authors remain responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts do not infringe the intellectual property rights of third parties.

3. Rights and Permissions

Under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 License, users may exercise the following rights for noncommercial purposes:

  • Copy and redistribute published articles in any medium or format.
  • Translate, transform, and adapt licensed scholarly materials.
  • Share published research for educational, academic, and other noncommercial purposes.

These rights are subject to the requirements of attribution, noncommercial use, and ShareAlike.

4. License Conditions

Users who share or adapt BMB articles under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 must:

  • Give appropriate credit to the original authors and acknowledge the original publication.
  • Provide a link to the applicable Creative Commons license.
  • Indicate whether changes or modifications were made.
  • Refrain from using licensed materials for commercial purposes without separate authorization, unless an applicable legal exception or limitation permits the use.
  • Distribute shared adaptations under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 or an officially compatible license.
  • Refrain from imposing additional legal or technological restrictions that prevent others from exercising the licensed rights.

Attribution must not imply that the original authors or the publisher endorse the reuse or adaptation.

5. Commercial Use

The CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 License does not grant permission for commercial reuse of licensed materials.

Users seeking commercial reuse may request separate authorization from the relevant copyright holder. Uses permitted by applicable copyright exceptions or limitations do not require permission under the Creative Commons license.

6. Author Rights and Self-Archiving

Authors may share and deposit their published articles in institutional repositories, personal websites, and scholarly platforms in accordance with the applicable publishing agreement and license.

Authors are encouraged to include a complete citation and a link to the original BMB article, including its DOI where available.

7. Third-Party Materials

Third-party materials that are specifically identified as excluded from an article's Creative Commons license remain subject to their respective copyright and permission requirements.

Authors must obtain necessary permissions for third-party copyrighted materials and clearly identify any applicable restrictions.

8. Licensing Transparency and Previous Publications

BMB aims to display consistent copyright and licensing information on its journal website, article landing pages, published PDFs, and publication metadata.

Articles published under earlier licensing arrangements remain subject to their applicable licenses. Adoption of the current licensing policy does not automatically modify or replace previously granted licenses.
