Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy

Bulletin of Management and Business (BMB) permits the responsible use of artificial intelligence as a supporting tool in scholarly writing and research, while maintaining academic originality, transparency, accountability, and research integrity.

20%
Maximum Indicative AI Detection Threshold
Proposed internal editorial screening standard, subject to approval by the Editorial Board.

1. General Policy

BMB permits the responsible use of AI tools for manuscript preparation and research assistance, provided that authors maintain full intellectual responsibility for their work.

AI must not replace original scholarly reasoning, critical analysis, or ethical research practices.

2. AI Detection and Screening

AI-assisted writing may be assessed using QuillBot AI Detector and/or Turnitin AI Writing Detection. Authors are encouraged to check their manuscripts before submission.

Editorial screening will consider tool availability, supported languages, and limitations in detection accuracy.

AI detection scores are not equivalent to similarity scores and do not independently establish academic misconduct.

3. AI Usage Limit and Editorial Assessment

BMB proposes a maximum indicative AI detection threshold of 20% for editorial screening.

AI Detection ≤20%: The manuscript meets the initial screening threshold and may proceed to further editorial assessment.

AI Detection >20%: Additional examination, author clarification, or revision may be required.

Research Integrity Violations: Fabricated data, fictitious references, manipulated findings, or undisclosed substantive AI use may lead to editorial action regardless of the detection score.

Final editorial decisions are based on scholarly quality, verifiable evidence, author explanations, and publication ethics, rather than automated detection scores alone.

4. Permitted AI Use and Author Responsibilities

AI tools may assist with grammar checking, language editing, translation, manuscript organization, and verifiable technical research activities.

Authors must verify the accuracy of all AI-assisted content and remain responsible for the validity of research data, citations, analyses, interpretations, and conclusions.

AI systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Any substantive use of AI must be disclosed transparently.

5. AI Use by Reviewers and Editors

Reviewers and editors must preserve manuscript confidentiality and exercise independent academic judgment.

Confidential submissions must not be uploaded to external AI systems without appropriate authorization and confidentiality safeguards. AI may support editorial work but must not independently determine publication decisions.

6. AI Usage Declaration

Authors who use AI substantively must include a declaration before the References section, specifying the tools used and their purposes.

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

The authors used [AI tool name] for [specific purpose]. All AI-assisted content was reviewed and verified by the authors, who take full responsibility for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of the manuscript.

If no generative AI was substantively used, authors may include the following statement:

The authors declare that no generative AI tools were used to generate or substantively modify the scholarly content of this manuscript.

7. Editorial Actions

BMB may request clarification, additional documentation, or manuscript revision when concerns regarding AI use arise.

Manuscripts containing substantiated violations of research integrity or this policy may be rejected following appropriate editorial assessment.

AI detection results alone shall not be treated as conclusive evidence of misconduct.
